The competition for new Chmielna Street settled

The competition for the transformation of Chmielna Street located in the center of the capital city has been resolved. This is another project within the New Center of Warsaw construction program. The jury decided that the work by RS Architektura Krajobrazu was the best.

Rows of trees will appear on both sides of Chmielna Street, on the section from Nowy Świat Street to the Stanisław Wiechecki “Wiecha” Passage. There will also be changes in the squares next to the Atlantic cinema and the medical center, where books are now sold under a bushel. There will be a bookstore square with comfortable terraces, seats, and spectacular lighting. Bracka street from Aleje Jerozolimskie to the so-called Five Corners Square will also change.

During the evaluation of the works, attention was paid, among others, to multifunctionality and spatial solutions that support the development of trade, catering, and other services in harmony with the needs of the residents in the immediate vicinity. It was also important to preserve the identity of the place and the form of the proposed means of expression. The convenience of pedestrians and cyclists was important. Chmielna Street is an important promenade, and the city wants it to be friendly and safe, well connected with neighboring squares and streets. After the changes, Chmielna will be able to perform and reconcile changing functions, and the street space will be alive in different ways.
