New car registrations in Europe fell last year to the lowest level since 1993. According to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association, the industry is still facing parts shortages, particularly for semiconductors. Despite an increase in sales since last August, overall registrations in the European Union (EU) fell by 4.6 percent to 9.3 million.

Germany was the only major European market to see an increase of 1.1 percent last year, while registrations in Italy fell by 9.7 percent, in France by 7.8 percent, and in Spain by 5.4 percent.
