Poles losing jobs as Chinese goods flood market
A growing share of European industry is under threat from China’s economic expansion, according to a report by Poland’s Centre for Eastern Studies and the Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers. The report says China’s state-backed industrial policy creates unequal competition, costing the EU around 500 industrial jobs a day. In 2025, €87 bln in added value shifted from European industry to China, including €11 bln lost directly or indirectly by Poland.
The hardest-hit sectors include automotive and electromobility, machinery, IT components and electronics. Poland is less exposed than many EU countries, with Chinese competition affecting 15% of its exports, compared with 32% in Germany. Still, about 45,000 Polish industrial jobs may be at risk.
