EBRD lowers GDP forecast for Poland for 2023

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has cut Poland's GDP growth forecast for next year by 1 percentage point. But this year's forecast remained unchanged – economic growth in 2022, according to the bank, will be 4 percent in Poland.
In March, already after the Russian aggression against Ukraine, which caused a shock to the economy, the bank forecast that GDP in Poland would be 4 percent this year and 4.5 percent in 2023. In its new May forecast, the EBRD decided to lower its projections for next year, but recognizes that 4 percent growth this year is likely.
The EBRD's forecasts for Poland for 2022 and 2023 are still more optimistic than those for the entire region of Central Europe and the Baltic states, of which Poland is a part. In this region, GDP growth is expected to be 3.2 percent and 3.4 percent this year and next, respectively.
As for the general government deficit, Polish fiscal policy is expected to push it above 4 percent this year.
