'Energy price increases in 2022 will be higher than inflation’: President of the Energy Regulatory Office
In 2022, the price increase in the case of the electricity trading tariff will be two-digit. We are to know the new rates for next year in mid-December, announced Rafał Gawin, President of the Energy Regulatory Office (URE) in an interview for Rzeczpospolita. In this case, companies will be able to increase prices from January 1, 2022.
Why such large increases? The situation in Poland as regards energy prices is currently problematic due to several factors.
Network operators want to increase tariff rates mainly due to the very high costs of natural gas on which the energy market in the EU is based, with which the Polish market is connected, and - above all - the valuation on the coal market and the prices of CO2 emission allowances. However, the necessity to invest in low and medium-voltage grids also plays a role, to be able to connect producers of energy from renewable energy sources to them (e.g. from photovoltaics).
"The potential of connecting new RES sources using the existing distribution capacity is slowly ending, as is the prospect of further integration of electricity generated from distributed sources. Significant investment is needed to change the system,” Rafał Gawin said.
