Poland faces high energy costs

Poland has the highest wholesale electricity prices in Europe, averaging €90 per MWh in 2024. This is significantly higher than countries like Norway and Sweden, where prices are between €32 and €39. In contrast, Poland’s July prices were €109 per MWh, more than double France's rates.
High energy costs are affecting Polish industries, leading to relocations and job losses. The situation is exacerbated by Poland's reliance on coal and the upcoming EU phase-out of free CO2 allowances from 2026 to 2034. Industry leaders have warned that the ongoing energy crisis could lead to further economic decline if not addressed promptly.
