Despite auditors uncovering irregularities at both PZU and its subsidiary, PZU Życie, former managers of the parent company received bonuses—provided they had been granted discharge. However, the supervisory board of PZU Życie suspended all such payments before being dismissed on January 31.
The discrepancy highlights inconsistent bonus policies within state-owned enterprises. While PKO BP withheld variable compensation from managers without discharge and those facing legal scrutiny, PZU took a more lenient approach, paying out bonuses for 2020-2022 despite reported financial losses. In contrast, PZU Życie froze payments, citing legal risks.
The Ministry of State Assets has yet to clarify governance standards, raising concerns over financial accountability in state-owned corporations.
