In August, daily shopping prices rose by 4.3% y/y, up from 3.9% in July and 3.1% in June, according to UCE Research and WSB Merito University.
Unusually for summer, fruit and vegetable prices increased by 9.1% and 6.3% y/y, respectively. Non-alcoholic beverages saw the highest price increase at 10.2%, driven by high demand during the hot summer.
Confectionery prices rose by 9.3%, influenced by expensive raw materials and production costs. Household chemicals also increased by 5.3%. Only dry goods saw a price drop of 3.9%. Experts attribute rising prices to increased production costs and energy prices, with potential future impacts from weather-related crop issues.
