Poland becoming shackled to American LNG
The Amberjack LNG carrier has arrived at Poland’s Świnoujście terminal, marking the facility’s 450th LNG delivery and its 40th in the first half of the year. However, the data points to a growing dependence on U.S. LNG. After the conflict around Iran disrupted routes through the Strait of Hormuz, Qatari LNG deliveries stopped, leaving Poland with no Qatari cargoes in Q2. Since late March, Poland has received 19 LNG shipments from the U.S. and one from Trinidad and Tobago, meaning 95% of Q2 LNG deliveries came from one country.
This creates supply risks, especially because many U.S. LNG terminals are exposed to hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico. Smaller U.S. tankers also mean Poland may receive less gas overall.
