Polish inflation hits 3.2%
Consumer price inflation in Poland accelerated to 3.2% year-on-year in April 2026, its highest level in ten months, according to data released by Poland's central statistical office (GUS) and analysed by Bankier.pl's chief economist Krzysztof Kolany. The spike is being driven primarily by a sharp rise in fuel prices following the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East at the end of February, but price pressures are now spreading into broader categories. The analyst identified nearly 40 product groups where prices rose at a double-digit rate over the past 12 months, with transport, energy and food all contributing to the acceleration. The reading exceeded market forecasts and has reignited debate about whether Poland's central bank (NBP), which held its reference rate at 3.75% earlier this month, will need to revisit its cautious monetary stance.
