Regional airports expand for growth

Poland’s regional airports are investing billions to accommodate a projected doubling of passenger traffic by 2040. Expansion plans include new terminals, hotels, hangars, parking facilities, and photovoltaic farms to boost revenue and cut costs.
Kraków Airport, Poland’s largest regional hub, plans to expand its terminal, add a security system with CT scanners, and convert an old cargo building into a low-cost airline terminal. A long-delayed second runway remains in bureaucratic limbo. Gdańsk Airport is investing PLN 0.5 billion in infrastructure upgrades and an "Airport City" with offices and a hotel. Katowice and Wrocław airports are also expanding, with Wrocław planning a 40-day closure for terminal upgrades.
Regional airports handled 64% of Poland’s air traffic in 2024. With demand rising, investments aim to enhance capacity and efficiency in the years ahead.
